Second Annual ART in TRANSIT Week April 15-19
Platform Art has joined with Polk Transit to create the Second Annual Art in Transit Week
Platform Art has joined with Polk Transit to create the Second Annual Art in Transit Week. The purpose of the event is to bring art to people who might not be exposed to the various art venues while providing a unique way to bring public transit to those who would generally not be riding our city buses.
Polk County’s Board of County Commissioners proclaimed the week Art in Transit week in Polk County. On April 15th the City of Lakeland will proclaim Art in Transit week in Lakeland at the City’s Commission Meeting. Monday, April 15th between 11:30 and 12:30 there will be festivities at the Lakeland Downtown Terminal that will include an official kick off of the week by the Mayor, Platform Art representatives, and Citrus Connection along with performances by several dance and musical groups as well as a flash mob fashion show. A representative of the Lakeland Downtown Kiwanis Club will be on hand to talk about their Friday evening event at the Polk Theatre. The Downtown Kiwanis are hosting an event to raise money for bus shelters for Citrus Connection in Lakeland. The event will include food, drinks and a screening of the Marilyn Monroe classic movie, Bus Stop. They have already raised enough funds for four (4) new bus shelters and hope the Friday night event will allow them to increase the total to five (5).
Each day certain runs of 4-5 routes will have a variety of artists performing for the riders. There will be paintings, caricatures, reading and spoken word, etc. The entire schedule is posted on ridecitrus.com to facilitate sharing the information so anyone interested in making the trip to hear or see the activities will know what will be happening on which route.
There will be a similar event in Bartow and one in Winter Haven on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively during 11:30 to 12:30.
